Trindle French Bulldog
Tan points with brindle tiger striping inside the markings. Learn the at/* + Kbr genotype behind this unique combination.
What Makes a Trindle Frenchie Special
The Trindle French Bulldog is a tan point dog with a twist — the tan markings aren't solid, they're brindle-striped. The at/* genotype at the A-locus produces the classic tan points on the eyebrows, muzzle, cheeks, chest, and legs. Then the Kbr allele at the K-locus adds brindle striping within those tan areas.
The result is a dog with a solid-colored body (black, blue, lilac, etc.) but with eye-catching brindle-tiger striping inside the tan point markings. This creates more visual interest than a standard tan point without the full complexity of a tricolor or merle pattern.
Trindle is sometimes called "brindle-pointed" or "tri-brindle." It's a popular combination because it offers unique patterning without requiring as many recessive genes as exotic colors like Isabella or Platinum.
The Trindle Genotype
A-Locus: Tan Points
Required: at/at or at/a
The tan point allele produces the warm markings on eyebrows, muzzle, cheeks, chest, and legs. Without at, the dog would be a solid brindle.
K-Locus: Brindle
Required: Kbr/-
The brindle allele adds tiger striping within the tan point areas. Kbr is dominant — only one copy is needed.

Trindle Frenchie FAQ
What is a Trindle French Bulldog?
A Trindle (tri-brindle or brindle-pointed) French Bulldog is a tan-point dog with brindle striping inside the tan points. The dog has the A-locus tan point pattern (at/at or at/a) with brindle striping visible in the tan areas. The body is typically black, blue, lilac, or another solid color, while the eyebrows, cheeks, chest, and legs show brindle-striped tan markings.
What is the genotype of a Trindle Frenchie?
The genotype is at/at (or at/a) + Kbr/-. The dog must carry the tan point allele (at) at the A-locus AND the brindle allele (Kbr) at the K-locus. The Kbr gene causes brindle striping within the tan point areas. Without Kbr, the dog would be a standard tan point (no brindle in the markings).
How is Trindle different from standard Tan Point?
Standard Tan Point has solid tan markings on the eyebrows, cheeks, chest, and legs. Trindle has brindle-striped tan markings in those same areas — you can see tiger striping within the tan points. The body color is the same (black, blue, etc.), but the point markings are more visually interesting.
How is Trindle different from Tricolor?
Trindle has brindle striping within the tan points on a solid body. Tricolor has solid tan points PLUS white patches from the S-locus piebald gene. A Trindle has only two colors (body + brindle-tan points). A Tricolor has three colors (body + tan points + white patches).
How much does a Trindle Frenchie cost?
Trindle French Bulldogs typically range from $5,000 to $10,000 for pet quality. Premium specimens with crisp brindle striping in the points, clean body color, and good structure can reach $10,000–$18,000. The dual-locus requirement makes this moderately valuable.
What colors can Trindle come in?
Trindle can appear on any base color. Black Trindle has a black body with brindle-tan points. Blue Trindle (d/d) has a blue-gray body with brindle-tan points. Lilac Trindle (d/d + co/co) has a lilac body with brindle-tan points. The brindle striping in the points is visible on all base colors.
